Crib, 2018

Wood, metal, acrylic paint, and found materials

Portfolio for Methods of Art work, representing my time working as an artist, student, and father.

(All of the work I have created in 2018 is a look at my life and all of the changes that have occurred in the past two years. In the past two years, I had a son, lost a dog, had a brother get married and move to London, I moved my entire family back to Iowa, I turned 30-years-old and enrolled in the Masters of Arts in Teaching program at Drake University. It has been an incredibly wonderful and stressful two years. It has simultaneously been the greatest and hardest two years of my entire life, but I wouldn’t change it for a thing. The reason I chose made this crib is that every night at home, in my small cramped apartment, I fought sleep to create artwork, something I am so very passionate about. And every night, my son would wake up in his crib and I would have to go console him, rock him back to sleep or jump in bed with him leaving my artwork on the counter until the next morning. All of my artwork has my wife and my son in it, they have helped shape me to become a better person, helped me change for the better, and to think about others more kindly. All of the artwork in this crib comes from a tired, working to become a better and nicer person, father, husband and humbling grad student hoping to one day be a successful, compassionate and inspiring art teacher.)
